Why am I receiving a verification email from ICANN?
ICANN is a non-profit organization that oversees most domain extensions. This primarily includes domain extensions that are not tied to a specific country or region, such as .com, .net, .org, .info, .shop, .online, etc.
As part of their oversight, they verify the information (like the email address) of the person registering a domain name. Therefore, after registering your domain name, you may receive an email from ICANN asking you to validate your email address. This ensures that you are using a valid and verified email address.
It is very important to validate your email address if you receive such an email from ICANN. You can do this by clicking the link in the email within 14 days.
When might I receive a verification email?
Registration (or transfer) of an ICANN domain name using an email address that has not been previously verified.
When updating the owner’s details. If you provide a new email address that has not been validated, ICANN will send you an email for verification.
What happens if I don’t confirm my email address?
If you do not confirm the email address verification within 14 days, ICANN will temporarily suspend all domain names registered with that email address. As a result, your domain name and any email services associated with that domain will stop working.
When a domain name is suspended, the following nameservers are automatically assigned:
- ns1.emailverification.info
- ns2.emailverification.info
These nameservers cannot be changed manually through the control panel.
The only way to reactivate your domain name is to complete the ICANN verification process using the email you received. Once the verification has been successfully completed, your previous nameservers will be restored automatically.
Please note that nameserver changes can take up to 36 hours to propagate worldwide.
Is your domain name no longer working?
You can resolve this issue by clicking the verification link in the email from ICANN.
